At the foot of the birch tree
Lies the remains
Of the old man
When spring comes
It is covered in greenery
The Green Man appears
Fruit of eternal transformation
The child appears
Under his Mother’s loving gaze
At this point in the cycle, the interdependence of the decomposition of the remnants of the past and the fertility of the present moment becomes apparent.
The glyph depicts a wet nurse, whose breasts will nourish the developing form.
Through discrimination, the lucidity of Fire ensures the preservation of the fiery essence and withdraws here to let Ice carry out the work of gestation. The Fehu/Uruz complementarity of the first Aett is answered by Tiwaz/Berkano, a fruitful union giving rise to new forms. There is perfect balance at the beginning of this cycle. These forms of consciousness, bathed in the energy of Fire and fortified by the energy of Ice, are fertile and recreate us, while the Ice enriches us with what lay hidden in its depths.
Following Tiwaz’s fertilizing organ comes the gestation and nourishment of the created form. Tiwaz has cleared away all unwanted influences, the warrior protecting the hearth. The shadow recognized and dispersed in Tiwaz nourishes the seeds of new forms of consciousness. The arrow has hit the target, fertilization has taken place, the field is sown and becomes fertile.
While the previous rune was invasive and focused, operating under the aegis of Fire to ward off all undesirable forms, here the focus remains on attention, but in a slow and continuous manner. During this gestation period, it is imperative to ensure the nourishment and protection of the elements— —that enable growth. The previous work of Tiwaz has made it possible to eliminate unwanted nourishment, and here the gestation can be brought to term, but it is advisable to persevere in the discernment that this preceding rune has taught us. Indeed, “aggregates” from the past may persist, generating reactive forces that hinder or alter this blossoming, stimulating undesirable seeds: in this case, action must be taken without delay.
A renewal of our outer and inner worlds is underway, requiring both vigilance to discern the calls of memory and great adaptability and openness to welcome new opportunities.
